पांडेय गणपत राय
पांडेय गणपत राय का जन्म 17 जनवरी 1809 ई में लोहारदग्गा के भौरों गाँव (भंडारा ब्लॉक) मे हुआ था। ये एक जमींदार कायस्थ परिवार से थे। इसके पिता का नाम राम किशुन राय श्रीवास्तव था माता का नाम सुमित्रा देवी था। इसके पत्नी का नाम सुगंधा कुँवर था। इसके चाचा सदाशिव राय श्रीवास्तव नागवंशी राजा जगन्नाथ शाहदेव के दीवान थे। चाचा की मृत्यु के पश्चात इनके सामर्थ्य को देखकर नागवंशी राज्य का दीवान बनाया गया। दीवान बनने के बाद इन्हीं तीन स्थानों में आना जाना पड़ता था पालकोट, पातिया भौरों। उस समय नागवंशी राजाओं का मुख्यालय पालकोट था। गणपत राय की जमीनदारी का मुख्यालय पातिया था।
1857 ई के विद्रोह के दौरान रामगढ़ बटालियन के विद्रोही सैनिक जब एक शक्तिशाली नेतृत्व के आभाव में भटक रहे थे। उस वक्त इन्होंने ही विद्रोही सैनिकों की मुलाकात विश्वनाथ शाहदेव से कराया। विश्वनाथ शाहदेव ने इन 600 सैनिकों के साथ मुक्तिवाहिनी सेना का स्थापना किया। गणपत राय इस मुक्तिवाहिनी सेना के प्रधान सेनापति नियुक्त हुए। मुक्तिवाहिनी सेना ने 1 अगस्त 1857 को डोरंडा छावनी पर अधिकार कर लिया। 2 अगस्त को पूरे राँची में मुक्तिवाहिनी सेना का अस्थाई अधिकार हो गया।
विश्वनाथ शाहदेव के साथ इन्होंने चतरा की लड़ाई में भी अंग्रेजो के विरुद्ध युद्ध किया। मगर इस लड़ाई से दोनो को चतरा से भागना पड़ा। बाद में ये दोनों लोहारदग्गा के जंगलों से छापामार युद्ध जारी रखा।
गणपत राय को कैप्टेन नेशन ने परेहपाट गाँव से गिरफ्तार किया। यह गिरफ्तारी यहाँ के जमींदार महेंद्र शाही के विश्वासघात के कारण हुआ। पांडेय गणपत राय को 21 अप्रैल 1858 में राँची जिला स्कूल के मुख्य द्वार के पास कदम्ब के पेड़ से लटकाकर फाँसी दे दिया गया। इसी पेड़ में 5 दिन पहले विश्वनाथ शाहदेब को फाँसी दिया गया था।
इनके सम्मान में पांडेय गणपत राय मेमोरियल बैडमिंटन चैंपियनशिप की शुरुआत 2018 से की गई। इनके सम्मान में रांची स्थित मेगा स्पोर्ट्स कॉम्प्लेक्स में गणपत रॉय इंडोर स्टेडियम बनाई गई है।
Pandey Ganpat Rai
Pandey Ganpat Rai was born on 17 January 1809 in Bhauron village (Bhandara block) of Lohardagga. He belonged to a landlord Kayastha family. His father’s name was Ram Kishun Rai Srivastava and mother’s name was Sumitra Devi. His wife’s name was Sugandha Kunwar. His uncle Sadashiv Rai Srivastava was the Diwan of Nagavanshi King Jagannath Shahdev. After the death of his uncle, seeing his capabilities, he was made the Diwan of the Nagvanshi kingdom. After becoming the Diwan, he had to visit these three places, Palkot, Patia Bhauron. At that time the headquarters of the Nagavanshi kings was Palkot. The headquarters of Ganpat Rai’s zamindari was Patia.
During the revolt of 1857, when the rebel soldiers of the Ramgarh battalion were wandering in the absence of a strong leadership, it was he who arranged the meeting of the rebel soldiers with Vishwanath Shahdev. Vishwanath Shahdev established the Mukti Vahini army with these 600 soldiers. Ganpat Rai was appointed the chief commander of this Mukti Vahini army. The Mukti Bahini army took over the Doranda cantonment on 1 August 1857. On 2 August, the Mukti Bahini army temporarily took over the entire Ranchi.
Along with Vishwanath Shahdev, he also fought against the British in the battle of Chatra. But due to this battle, both of them had to flee from Chatra. Later, both of them continued the guerilla war from the forests of Lohardagga.
Ganpat Rai was arrested by Captain Nation from Parehpat village. This arrest happened due to the betrayal of the local landlord Mahendra Shahi. Pandey Ganpat Rai was hanged from a Kadamba tree near the main gate of Ranchi District School on 21 April 1858. Vishwanath Shahdeb was hanged from the same tree 5 days earlier.
In his honour, Pandey Ganpat Rai Memorial Badminton Championship was started in 2018. Ganpat Roy Indoor Stadium has been built in the Mega Sports Complex in Ranchi in his honour.
